Literary Translation

Put simply, literary translation is no more than the migration of feeling to language. This category comprises work such as poetry, stories, novels, journalistic articles, intellectual creations, the humanities, and similar categories. Translating humanities-related subjects and literature is an art in itself; the transferring of knowledge and artful presentation from one language to another. Saleh Alomar Certified Translation (SACT) has translated various literary works, including poems, short stories, plays, and novels. At SACT, we are keen to promote the principle of cultural dialogue and sharing humanities’ ideas and concepts in a way that reflects diverse cultures and contemporary thought, all the while without diluting the original text’s message. It is a far cry from delivering a literal word for word translation, and more a way of conveying the author’s message while maintaining the mood and manner and the eloquence and dynamism of the original, yet making it resonate with a foreign audience or individual. So, a literary and creative translator with empathy for the art itself is a must for literary translation, working as they do on their own version of a masterpiece. Translating novels has become ever more popular, and it means books can achieve worldwide success. But the employment of a skilled linguist who understands the form is a key decision because it is essential that the author’s original style, vision, and emotion are retained. We only use linguists who are talented creative writers, possessed of cultural awareness and knowledge of the publishing industry itself.
